Moving in Semaphore
Semaphore is a beach suburb at the northern end of the Lefevre Peninsula, known for the long stretch of Semaphore Road and its Victorian-era shopping strip, plus the beachside Esplanade. The housing stock near the beach and Semaphore Road is predominantly single-fronted Victorian workers' cottages and stone-rendered terraces from the 1880s-1910s. Further from the beach, inter-war bungalows and more recent brick veneer give way to a more varied stock. Semaphore Road has on-street parking with angle parking for parts of its length; the residential side streets running north to the beach are typically 8-9 metres wide. The Port Adelaide Enfield council administers this area. Move access for the older stone cottages is the same narrow-passage consideration as for similar Victorian stock elsewhere in inner Adelaide, compounded by the long carry from the street to the rear of many narrow lots.
Local access & logistics
Every Semaphore move starts with the access, because that is what decides the truck, the crew and the timing. Here is what we plan around in Semaphore:
- City of Port Adelaide Enfield; Victorian workers' cottages near beach with 80-85cm passages
- Semaphore Road has angle parking; side streets 8-9m wide with reasonably good truck access
- Long narrow lots near the beach: carry distance from street to kitchen at rear is often 20-25m
- Beach proximity means some properties have sandy front paths; heavy trolleys need wood boards
Send us the pickup and drop-off addresses with your quote and we'll tell you exactly how we'd handle your move, including parking, the carry and any lift or staircase that needs a plan.

Parking and permits — City of Holdfast Bay / Charles Sturt / Prospect
Parking conditions vary across the western and northern suburbs. Glenelg's beachside streets (City of Holdfast Bay) have seasonal loading restrictions near Jetty Road; a temporary No Standing can be arranged through Council for move-out days. Semaphore and Henley Beach (City of Charles Sturt) are generally straightforward — mainly residential streets with good access. Prospect (City of Prospect) is a grid of wide residential streets with generous on-street parking; formal permits are rarely needed but available through Council.
Semaphore removals: common questions
What is truck access like in Semaphore?
Semaphore's residential streets are wide for an older suburb — most can accommodate a medium-rigid truck without difficulty. On-street parking is mostly unrestricted. A temporary No Standing through City of Charles Sturt is available if you need certainty for a specific time window.
My Semaphore cottage was built in the 1890s. Any specific access challenges?
Late-19th-century cottages in Semaphore typically have a long front path from the gate to the verandah (which we carry along) and internal rooms accessed through narrow doorways. Furniture that was assembled in situ — especially beds with large frames and older lounge suites — sometimes needs disassembly to get out. Tell us when you book so we bring the right tools.
How much does a move in Semaphore cost?
Our online-quote rates start at $200 for the first two hours with two movers and a truck ($250 for three movers, $400 for a larger crew with two trucks). You get a clear indicative quote before booking — no surprises on the day.
